Jonathan Sesar

Born in Port Hedland and raised by a single parent during the early years of childhood, Jonathan learnt to be independent at a young age. Having a stepfather in Queensland meant the family travelled back and forth between states every 2-3 years, which impacted Jonathan’s schooling and social life.
Despite admitting he had difficulty focusing in school, Jonathan graduated from year 12 in Queensland and met his partner soon after. They have two children named Jacob, aged 9 and Antwan aged 7.
Jonathan was unemployed for 12 months prior to his Nirrumbuk referral via Kimberley Employment Services (KES). He accepted advice from a Mentor at KES to complete the 14 week Work Ready Program in 2017, which allowed him to achieve Certificate II in Construction.
As a result, he was presented the opportunity to undertake the traineeship with Sheffield Resources Limited, a mineral sands focused explorer and developer in WA. Jonathan has been working for Sheffield since mid-2018, while also completing Certificate III in Civil Construction on a part time basis.

Prior to joining Nirrumbuk, Jonathan was lacking in confidence and having difficulty with finding employment to suit his skill set. Since working as a trainee for Sheffield, he has learned new skills such as operating large machinery, communicating with co workers and completing compliance documents. He hopes to build on these skills and have a long term career in the mining industry.
Jonathan’s advice for to high school students struggling with self confidence is:
Go for it! Don’t be afraid to put your hand up and give it a go. I did and it got me where I am today.
