About the program
Nirrumbuk has been funded to deliver the support and training needed to help local people get their driver’s licence.
How can we help?
The program can help people in the Kimberley who have found it difficult to get their driver’s licence for reasons including access to a suitable vehicle, supervisor, driving instructor, and money to cover costs.
What do we offer?
Through the program, we can offer learner drivers assistance with:
- Learning the road rules
- Getting driving lessons and practice in a suitable car
- Covering the costs of getting a driver’s licence
- Collecting the documents, you need to get a licence
A driver’s licence makes it easier to visit friends and family, get to appointments and get a job. It can also be an important proof of identity.
Meet Harry
I manage the driving access and equity program for Nirrumbuk and hold a driving instructor’s licence for Class C vehicles. I also have experience supervising lessons in heavy rigid trucks. I support participants engaged in the driving school program throughout their entire learning journey—from initial learner support through to successfully obtaining their driver’s licence.
Meet BJ
A driving instructor who delivers structured, patient, and professional instruction tailored to individual learning needs. Provides comprehensive support to participants throughout the licensing process, from foundational learner development to final licence attainment. Committed to promoting road safety, building driver confidence, and ensuring participants are well-prepared for independent driving.
Meet Naomi
An experienced driving instructor who takes a calm, supportive approach to teaching, adapting each lesson to suit the individual. She guides learners through every stage of getting their licence, helping them develop essential skills, confidence, and safe driving habits. Her focus is on creating capable, responsible drivers who feel prepared and confident on the road.
Book a Driving Lesson
Please ensure you contact our office prior to booking your PDA with the Department of Transport. We operate with limited vehicle availability and may be fully booked on your preferred date.
Also note, you MUST complete a minimum of two driving lessons with one of our Driving Instructors before you are eligible to use one of our vehicles for a PDA booking.
Failure to confirm availability with us in advance may result in us being unable to support your assessment booking.

Through the program, I gained more experience and confidence in my driving. Now I feel confident to drive freely and independently without relying on others for Transport. Having my licence means I can help my family become more independent, and work towards new job opportunities. My advice to others is to “take your time, get plenty of practice, and don’t give up."

Aiden Dann
“I would like to thank Nirrumbuk for helping me getting my licence so that I can secure employment when I move to Melbourne and pursue my passion to play football”.
Aiden has successfully obtained his probationary license after having his learner permit for over a year. He was keen to get the support from the driver training program through Nirrumbuk Aboriginal Corporation, to help him obtain his “P”plates before relocating to live and work in Melbourne.
In succeeding to gain his “P”plates he has confirmed that he has secured a job and is able to drive himself to play football in the hope of being recruited at a senior level. As a result of gaining his licence he is less reliant on public transport, friends and family to get around.

Leilani successfully gained her “P”plates after failing her first PDA which she arranged on her own. Leilani decided to sign up for driver training program through Nirrumbuk Aboriginal Corporation, to gain the necessary support.
